One Couple’s Decision

My ex-girlfriend first found out about labiaplasty surgery during a lunch with a group of her women friends. I suppose it was an odd topic over chicken salad, but nonetheless, she found herself fascinated by the subject, although at first, she pretended to be slightly disinterested, yet polite. Secretly, it fascinated her and she listened, enthralled. She had no idea that a plastic surgeon would be able to take on her most intimate and delicate of sexual genitalia, the labia minora. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing! Sheryl, the friend who had had the surgery, was surprisingly unembarrassed and gave us all the details as we enjoyed our lunch. What she didn’t know was that my girlfriend had been seriously considering plastic surgery for herself in order to improve our sex life. Sheryl was obviously satisfied. By the end of lunch, she wanted this surgery too. For me, the beautification of this most intimate area appealed far more than a facelift, breast implant or butt lift—all the routine surgeries that everyone seemed to be having these days, surgeries she had actually considered. Like most women, my ex couldn’t afford every surgery or even more than one. The information she learned from our friend that day made up her mind. She chose to have the procedure. Why? For her, the answer was clear and two-fold: confidence in her own body image and increased sexual pleasure for her boyfriend–me. It seemed to her that if she could afford only one surgery, the labiaplasty was certainly the way to go.

For improved sexual gratification, more than breast, more than butt, the labia minora and all its surrounding glory is, in the end, what it’s all about. The labia are perhaps the symbolic as well as physical “open doors” to the ultimate sexual goal which the male seeks and which the female desires. No man seeks the conquest of an unwrinkled face, perfect breast or uplifted butt, although all of these are attractive to him. If the labia are too large, misshapen, or otherwise unattractive, this will surely have a negative effect on the male sex drive. A protuberant appearance of the labia minora, can be an unappealing sight. This is particularly true in this day and age when many men prefer a clean shaven appearance. Practically, labia that are too large can get in the way. I have overheard men discuss unattractive labia in their ex-wives, former girlfriends, but rarely do they discuss poorly shapen breasts, or unattractive butts.

Now, like our friend Sheryl, my ex-girlfriend is very glad she chose labiaplasty. Even though we’re not together any more, her husband–yes, husband–is also appreciative of the procedure.
