Some women who gain a lot of weight during their pregnancy may develop fat in their labia majora. Once their baby is born very often the mom looses weight especially if she breast feeds. Often some extra stretched skin remains after weight loss on the abdomen and believe it or not but also on the labia majora. Many women do not like the look of stretched out labia majora especially since it may hang with the pull of gravity. There is a solution to this problem. Excise a large wedge of mucosa and skin from the labia majora and then the labia is much tighter and looks younger and definitely does not hang upon standing. The surgery is done on outpatient basis with a local anesthetic. It takes about one hour and the patient may go home applying ointment and wearing a pad. The sutures dissolve. There is very little pain associated with this procedure and the scar is minimal. Patient can return to normal activity after three weeks.
