Cosmetic Labiaplasty

Important Facts About Cosmetic Labiaplasty

Cosmetic labiaplasty is a procedure that is becoming more common, and for a variety of reasons. What is labioplasty surgery? During this procedure the labia, the lips that are outside of the vaginal opening, are changed or reduced, or both. There are two sets of labia, the labia majora, which is the larger outermost set that can have hair, and the labia minora, the smaller set of lips closest to the vaginal opening that do not grow hair, and which cover the clitoris and urethra in addition to the opening of the vagina.

There are a number of reasons why women choose to have this surgery done. In some cases a female may be born with unusually large labia minora, or labia that are deformed or unusually shaped in some ways. In these cases a labioplasty can restore the labia to a normal shape and size. Usually this procedure is desired because of childbirth or aging, or a combination of both these factors together. After giving birth, both sets of labia can become larger and stretched out, but especially the inner labia. Varicose veins may become apparent in the labia, giving them a dark purple color that many women consider embarrassing or unsightly. For many women large or unusual labia can lead to a loss of self confidence and self esteem, and may make sex less enjoyable because of problems feeling attractive to their partner. If the labia become large enough, they may also cover the clitoris so that sexual enjoyment and arousal is difficult. Cosmetic labiaplasty can resolve all these issues no matter what age you are, so that you look and feel attractive and enjoy a healthy and satisfying sex life with your partner.

A labioplasty can help you enjoy sex, feel confident in the way you look nude, and get rid of self esteem issues associated with unusual or large labia. Most of the time this procedure is done at an outpatient surgical center, and you can go home the same day as long as there are no complications which require overnight observation. You can receive either a conscious sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the choice you and your surgeon have agreed upon, and you will usually be completely recovered and back to normal, only better, within six weeks of the surgery. The stitches will dissolve on their own eventually, and if needed a hotel suite, along with the care of a Registered Nurse, can be arranged during the recovery period. Pain medication and antibiotics are given to keep you comfortable while recovering and to prevent any infections after surgery.

Labioplasty surgery is very reasonably priced, with a usual cost anywhere from thirty five hundred to five thousand dollars, depending on the extent and scope of the procedure being performed. Because it is a surgical procedure, there are some risks involved, but they are very small and rarely occur. These can include infection, bleeding, and scarring. Using certified and qualified surgeons and surgical centers will help lower these risks even further. Some surgical centers use lasers, but many surgeons prefer traditional surgery for the procedure because they believe it gives better results with fewer risks involved.
