Smart Woman’s Guide to Plastic Surgery

I’ve been asked in the past about good books to read to study up on the whole area of plastic surgery. I don’t do a lot of reviews here, but I would like to mention one book that has been acclaimed by both lay-readers and those in the medical field. It is The Smart Woman’s Guide to Plastic Surgery.

The book’s author is Jean Loftus, and it sells for somewhere between $13 and $19, depending on where you get it (It’s available at most of the popular bookstore websites). It explains in clear language the most popular plastic-surgery procedures, and includes questions you should ask surgeons during your consultations with them. It also speaks frankly about the possible risks, and makes some suggestions about how to pay for the procedure. It goes into making your recovery faster, both physically and emotionally.

This book is good for women seeking most any kind of procedure: tummy tuck,, breast augmentation, facelift or labiaplasty. It’s amazingly complete and offers comprehensive details on every imaginable procedure. It even goes into the less-commonly-known ones, such as eyelid surgery, thigh lift, skin wrinkle surgery, and more. I know of no other book which offers this much useful information, given in clear language and illustrated in such a straightforward and honest manner.

One of the things I really appreciate, since it’s a book more for the average reader than it is for doctors, is the fact that the author avoids medical jargon as much as possible. It also includes a detailed glossary for those times when a more in-depth description of a term is needed. There is also a lot of information that might not expect in a book on this subject, including pitfalls of computer imagery, how much you can expect to spend, prosthetic materials, and as noted, possible complications.

I obviously do a lot of research into just about every phase of plastic surgery. This research includes studying books, doing Website searches, and speaking with others in the field. I can honestly say this book should be right up there with these other resources you use for researching your plastic-surgery procedure. It will explain for you the options available and help you decide on issues such as where your implant should be placed, which doctor is best qualified to perform the operation, when is the right time to get the procedure, and more. Please check out this helpful resource.
