In case you haven’t noticed it, plastic surgery has its own lingo, its own special language. If you don’t know the definitions, you could get lost, even as you investigate having a procedure done. So with that said, let’s take a look at Dr. Colen’s Plastic Surgery Dictionary, to help bring you up to speed.

A IS FOR….

Arm Lift, a procedure which gets rid of excess fat and skin from the upper arms.

B IS FOR…

BOTOX, a non-surgical facial wrinkle remover

Breast Augmentation, a procedure which enlarges the breast size.

Breast Lift, a procedure in which saggy breasts are lifted to a youthful level.

Breast Reduction, an operation that reduces the woman’s breast size.

C IS FOR…

Cheek Implant, a procedure that enhances the contour, shape and balance of the patient’s face.

Chemical peel, a non-surgical skin rejuvenating treatment.

D IS FOR…

Dermabrasion, a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment.

E IS FOR…

Eyelid Surgery, which corrects the patient’s drooping eyelids as well as bags under the eyes.

F IS FOR…

Facelift, the mother of all cosmetic surgeries. It tightens and lifts the patient’s skin which sags on the neck and face.

Facial Implants, which can be used for the chin, cheeks, nose, or jaw.

Fat Grafting, otherwise known as fat injections. These are taken from one part of the body and injected to another part of the body.

G IS FOR…

Gastric Bypass, also known as weight loss surgery, because it causes weight loss.

H IS FOR…

Hair Transplant. In this procedure, the patient’s hair folliles are transplanted from a full hair area to a bald area.

I IS FOR…

Injectable fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, and radiance or fat Injections.

J IS FOR…

Jaw Implant, which adds balance and prominence to the patient’s face.

L IS FOR…

Labiaplasty, a surgery to reduce an oversized labia minora or majora, the outside folds of skin around the vagina and urethra.

Lip Augmentation, which uses a facial filler like juviderm, or fat or Restylane. Or saline and silicone implants or surgery to reshape the lip

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or liposculpture, a procedure that removes extra fat from almost any part of the body.

M IS FOR…

Microdermabrasion, a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment.

N IS FOR…

Nose Surgery, technically called "rhinoplasty." This is a reshaping or resizing of the patient’s nose.

R IS FOR…

Recovery, the period of hours, days and weeks for a patient to return to full activity

S IS FOR…

Skin Resurfacing, a non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment.

Scar Revision, also known as scar repair therapy.

Spider Veins, a condition treated through injection or laser.

T IS FOR…

Tummy Tuck, also called an "abdominoplasty." This is a procedure that reduces the size of a patient’s abdominal skin with or without tightening the muscles.

V IS FOR…

Vaginoplasty, a procedure which tightens and repairs a female vagina.
