Breast Lift Surgery at Colen MD
A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, is performed on women who are dissatisfied with a sagging appearance in their breasts. Breasts begin to sag for a number of natural reasons such as age, genetics, pregnancy, and weight loss.
Through a breast lift surgery, the excess skin which has sagged is removed and the breasts are lifted into a more youthful position.
Am I a Candidate for Breast Lift?
Techniques used to remove breast skin and reshape breast tissue vary for each individual Breast Lift.
The specific technique your plastic surgeon chooses will determine the location of the incisions and the resulting scars.
Your plastic surgeon may make incisions within the following areas:
- Around the areolae — the darker area surrounding the nipples
- Extending downward from the areolae to the breast creases
- Horizontally along the breast creases
Stitches may be placed deep within your breasts to reshape your breast tissue and, if necessary, reduce the size of your areolae. Excess breast skin will be removed and the nipples may be shifted to higher positions. The breast skin is then brought together and the incisions are closed with stitches. Surgical tape or skin adhesives are also used.
Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
You might choose to have a breast lift if your breasts sag or your nipples point downward. A breast lift might also boost your self-image and self-confidence.
Some women notice a loss in breast mass in addition to breast sagging and for these women a breast lift combined with a breast augmentation is often the best route to achieving their desired results. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically lasts from one to three hours.
