Breast Reconstruction by Colen MD in NY and NJ
A diagnosis of cancer or other diseases effecting the breasts can be devastating. Our breasts are a big part of our womanhood. Today, however, there are more options than ever when it comes to breast reconstruction.
Breast reconstruction options include both surgical and non-surgical procedures, so women today have a number of choices to consider.
On the surgical front, modern surgical technology has made it possible to construct a natural-looking breast after mastectomy. The procedure is commonly completed immediately following the mastectomy, so that the patient wakes with the reconstruction. Alternatively, reconstruction may begin years after the mastectomy.
Breast Reconstruction Surgery Techniques
There are several ways to reconstruct the breast, the most common techniques include Breast Reconstruction with Flap Surgery or with Implants.
Flap Surgery: With Flap Surgery, much of the breast reconstruction involves the use of your body’s own tissue. This procedure can be accomplished at the time of your mastectomy. However, a second operation to achieve a correctly positioned, natural-appearing breast or to perform nipple reconstruction may be necessary.
Implants: Breast Reconstruction can be accomplished with the help of implants. The surgeons at Colen MD Plastic Surgery use the latest technologies available for implants. If only one breast is affected, it alone may be reconstructed.
