The Labiaplasty / Vaginoplasty Stereotypes

I'm always amazed by people who presume to tell me who my patients--those seeking a labiaplasty and / or vaginoplasty--are.  Too many people buy into the stereotypes, I'm guessing because they want to trivialize these plastic surgery procedures as something silly, demeaning, even dangerous.  So what are the stereotypes that people hold of labiaplasty / vaginoplasty patients? … [Read more...]

Minorities Under the Plastic Surgeon’s Scalpel

It's likely that minority women are less likely to get a labiaplasty or vaginoplasty than white women are, if we're to believe that a new report published in the February issue of ARCHIVES OF SURGERY applies nationally. According to that report,  which surveyed only New York City, when minorities do get plastic surgery, it's less likely to have been done by a surgeon who has done a lot of similar procedures,or at a … [Read more...]

Qualifying for Financing for a Labiaplasty

One thing I wrestle with is the fact that one of the medical procedures most difficult to finance through insurance is labiaplasty.  It is seen by most companies as elective surgery, and therefore not covered.  That's why I often suggest that women who can't afford this procedure seek out a plastic surgery loan. … [Read more...]

Good Tax News for Vaginoplasty Patients

The tax news just keeps getting better in the world of plastic surgery, especially for vaginoplasty patients.  You’ll remember that just a year ago, there was a rumor that as part of the new proposed healthcare overhaul, Congress would try to pay for part of it with a tax on plastic-surgery procedures.  This would have affected nearly all plastic-surgery procedures--certainly any that were deemed more cosmetic in … [Read more...]

The Real Reasons for the Explosive Growth of Labiaplasty

Sometimes it just does me no good to read the news, especially when the topic of Labiaplasty or vaginoplasty come up.  Too many times, people who are not connected with the field offer opinions that are total hogwash.  I just had one of those moments, when some blogger offered her view that these procedures have become so popular because of Hollywood’s obsession with plastic surgery and the perfect body.  While I’m … [Read more...]

Pain in Plastic Surgery

In my specialty areas of labiaplasty, vaginoplasty as well as other plastic-surgery procedures I perform, one of the main areas where people have questions is regarding pain.  They want to know if the surgery will hurt while in progress, and they also want to know how much pain they’ll experience during recovery.  Let’s discuss this whole “painful” subject. … [Read more...]

The Plastic Surgeon’s Web Site

I’m going to venture into dangerous territory, because I obviously have a website.  And when a person with a website writes about good  and bad sites, she sets herself up for all manner of criticism. But one of the most potentially helpful resources for helping you sort through the issues pertaining to plastic surgery are the surgeons’ own websites. … [Read more...]

Plastic Surgery? The 4 People Who Decide

There’s no question who the final decision rests with concerning whether you should have a labiaplasty, breast augmentation or vaginoplasty.  The ultimate choice is yours.  But because few people make such a decision in a vacuum,  you may want to consult and discuss the matter with some people like- … [Read more...]

The 4 People You Meet at the Plastic Surgeon’s Office

There's a book that's been on the bestseller lists for a few years now called The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Nobody put me in charge of these people that you'll encounter in the afterlife, so let me borrow the theme and talk about the four people you'll meet on your trip to the plastic surgeon's office--and how they can be important to you.  We'll take them in the order that you'rre likely to encounter them. … [Read more...]

Myth-Busting: Plastic Surgery Style

A favorite show of mine is "Myth Busters" on the Discovery Channel.  If you've never seen it, it's a show that involves a group of people who have been involved in special effects or related sciences testing popular myths, to see if they're true or --well, myths.   … [Read more...]
