Surgery to Reshape, Reduce, or Augment Ears
Ear Surgery, also known as Otoplasty is performed to improve stretched out earlobes, lobes with creases and wrinkles and other abnormalities. Children who are born with abnormally large ears, or ears which stick out far from the sides of the head, are often the subject of cruel and unnecessary teasing among their peers. This teasing has been known to affect these kids for the rest of their lives.
Colen MD Plastic Surgeons are pleased to have had many opportunities to help children improve the appearance of their ears. Otoplasty can be performed on children as young as five in many cases and is often believed that the younger the procedure is performed, the better – although, many adults have also benefited from Ear Surgery as well.
What results can I expect with Ear Surgery?
The Otoplasty procedure generally lasts two to three hours and may be performed in a hospital, office-based facility, or outpatient surgery center under general or local anesthesia. As with any surgery, there are risks and Otoplasty may not be right for everyone.
Am I a Candidate for Ear Surgery?
Otoplasty is often suggested to improve the appearance of a person’s ears for many different reasons. To find out if Otoplasty is right for you or your child, a consultation with our Plastic Surgeon Specialists is recommended.
