Signs You Need Vaginal Reconstruction

Vaginal Reconstruction

What is Vaginal Reconstruction?

Vaginal reconstruction, also known as vaginal rejuvenation, are various types of procedures that work to correct deficiencies and incompetencies of the vagina. Vagina reconstruction is often sought out by women who have previously given birth naturally and also by postmenopausal women.

Signs You Need Vaginal Reconstruction

Vaginal rejuvenation isn’t just performed for cosmetic reasons but can help alleviate issues caused by a weakened vagina. Problems most women have with their vaginas are a lack of elasticity of the muscles, lack of lubrication, and stress urinary incontinence.

Childbirth can cause the muscles in the vagina to become extremely lax. As a result, the pelvic region is weakened and this contributes to loss of bladder control functioning. The lack of ability to control one’s bladder to pass or hold urine is called urinary incontinence. Examples of urinary incontinence may involve a woman sneezing or laughing and accidentally wetting themselves. This can cause great embarrassment and affect the quality of life for the one afflicted with this condition.

In addition, some postmenopausal women may experience vaginal dryness and this can lead to discomfort while engaging in sexual intercourse. This can discourage the affected woman from having sex. When issues with the vagina don’t go away after Kegel exercises and OTC and medicated forms of lubrication, vaginal reconstruction is a viable solution to address these problems.

Types of Vaginal Reconstruction Procedures

There are several types of procedures that are effective in rejuvenating the vagina. Types of vaginal reconstruction fall under two categories: invasive and noninvasive. Popular invasive procedures are vaginoplasty and labiaplasty. Vaginoplasty is a procedure that involves the surgeon surgically tightening the vaginal tissues. Labiaplasty is the process in which the surgeon alters the shape and size of the labia to correct any asymmetries. The labia minor and labia major are the lips surrounding the vagina.
