Arm Lift Surgery by Colen MD
An arm lift, or brachioplasty procedure, is a reduction of excess skin and fat between the underarm and the elbow. This reshapes your arm to result in smoother skin and contours, and gives a more toned and proportionate appearance.
The upper arms, as with most areas of the body, are susceptible to excess, loose or sagging skin, as well as flab. This often occurs either with age or after significant changes in weight. Despite healthy lifestyle choices, excess skin and even stubborn pockets of fat are resistant to the effects of diet and exercise.
What can I expect with an Arm Lift Procedure?
Patients who desire to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat in the upper arms may combine an arm lift with liposuction for optimal results.
Sometimes a brachioplasty may be combined with other body contouring procedures such as a thigh lift, tummy tuck or breast lift to remove excess skin prevalent on other areas of the body after significant weight loss.
Following your surgery, dressings or bandages may be applied to your incisions, and your arms may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a compression garment to minimize swelling.
Am I a Candidate for an Arm Lift?
Ideal candidates often are in good health, have been at a steady weight for at least 6 months, are non-smokers and have realistic expectations
The results of arm lift surgery will be long-lasting, provided that you maintain a stable weight and general fitness. As your body ages, it is natural to lose some firmness, but most of your improvement should be relatively permanent.
