Am I an Ideal Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is a very popular procedure. It is designed to help individuals who have pockets of excess fat that they cannot get rid of on their own attain a firm and fit appearance. Contrary to what some people believe, it is not designed to be a weight loss procedure. That means that liposuction is not designed to take an individual who is obese and bring them down to a healthy size. There are other procedures that are designed to do this.

So that begs the question, what makes an individual a good candidate for liposuction? First, they need to be within a healthy weight range. Generally speaking, this means that they have some excess fat, but they do not fall into the category of being obese.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure. As such, to be a good candidate for the procedure, you should be healthy overall. You shouldn’t have any medical conditions that would put you at risk during or after the procedure. If you are a smoker and you’re considering liposuction, our team will likely recommend that you spend some time not smoking before you have the procedure performed.

In addition to some of the physical characteristics that would make an individual a good candidate for liposuction, there are also the mental and emotional characteristics. For example, a good candidate is going to have a well-defined and positive outlook for what they want from the procedure. They’re going to have set goals in mind.

They’re also going to realistically understand what the liposuction procedure can and cannot do for them. A good candidate for the procedure realizes that they are going to be the same person they were before the procedure after they have the procedure performed. The only difference is that after the procedure, they are going to have a more toned and trim figure.

Liposuction is designed to be a permanent fix. Once the fat is removed, it’s gone. However, if you do not maintain a good diet and exercise habits, you will see fat return. So, a good candidate would be committed to keeping themselves healthy and active well after the surgery is performed.

Of course, the best way to determine if you are a candidate for liposuction is to schedule a consultation at Colen MD Plastic Surgery, with offices in Manhattan/NYC and Bergen County. Contact us today to book an appointment!
